In Memoriam Glenn Gould (1932-1982)

Monday, October 22, at 7:30 pm, Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts

Canadian pianist Glenn Gould would have turned 75 this year. Twenty-five years ago, he left us at the height of his fame, which continues to transcend borders. The OM calls forth his spirit with works that he himself performed memorably or that he conducted or intended to conduct just before he died.

The concert will open with the Coriolan Overture, a true symphonic poem before its time. Then, pianist Wonny Song will play Bach’s Concerto for Harpsicord and Strings in D Minor in its piano version. In the second half of the concert, Nicholas Angelich will play Beethoven’s Concerto No. 2 which, of all the Beethoven concertos, most resembles those of Mozart. Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides that conveys the composer’s impressions and feelings on visiting an extraordinary Scottish landmark, and Siegfried Idyll that Wagner presented as a birthday gift to his wife Cosima, will complete the programme.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Conductor
