As the composer once said to bass-baritone Hans Hotter: “The truth is, these are my favourite melodies”. Brahms, for his part, was hailed as one of the greatest composers of his time, thanks largely to the success of his Requiem, a towering choral work. There’s nothing it doesn’t say!
