Lorraine Vaillancourt, guest conductor

This program, conceived in collaboration with Lorraine Vaillancourt, artistic director of the NEM and OM’s contemporary music advisor, provides the public with the opportunity to experience classical works of the 20th-century symphonic repertoire.

Programme

  • Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky, Symphony in C
  • Béla Bartók, Divertimento
  • Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev, Symphony No. 1, “Classical”

Description

The Orchestre Métropolitain has long enjoyed a fruitful relationship with its contemporary music advisor Lorraine Vaillancourt: among other things, several musicians from the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) founded by Vaillancourt, are permanent members of the Orchestra. This program was conceived in close collaboration with Lorraine Vaillancourt, providing her with the opportunity to present her favourite works in the 20th-century symphonic repertoire. For Orchestre Métropolitain audiences, it is also an occasion to discover « new Classics » and to savour sounds that are modern and seductive, full of vitality, and at times challenging and abrasive while nonetheless remaining staunchly “tonal” and accessible.
